Connect your agent
Connect Codex or Claude Code to TeeProxy.
These examples use Windows PowerShell and the default port. Replace YOUR_TEEPROXY_API_KEY with the key from the previous step, and replace each model placeholder with the complete model ID from the current catalog . Environment variables apply only to the current terminal and processes started from it.
| Agent | Model source | Base URL |
|---|---|---|
| Codex | ChatGPT | http://127.0.0.1:8899/v1 |
| Claude Code | Claude | http://127.0.0.1:8899 |
Codex Use the HTTP Responses API
Take the configuration below and merge it into %USERPROFILE%\.codex\config.toml . Preserve your other settings. If a section with the same name already exists, update it instead.
[model_providers.teeproxy]
name = "teerouter via teeproxy"
base_url = "http://127.0.0.1:8899/v1"
env_key = "TEEPROXY_AGENT_KEY"
wire_api = "responses"
supports_websockets = false
requires_openai_auth = false
[profiles.teeproxy]
model_provider = "teeproxy"Set the key and launch from the same PowerShell window:
$env:TEEPROXY_AGENT_KEY = 'YOUR_TEEPROXY_API_KEY'
codex --profile teeproxy --model 'COPY_CHATGPT_MODEL_ID'Use environment-variable authentication for the custom provider and disable WebSocket to use HTTP Responses / SSE. Compare the options with the official Codex configuration reference ↗ .
Claude Code Use the Anthropic Messages API
Set Base URL to the root address; do not append /v1 . Run these commands in the same terminal:
$env:ANTHROPIC_BASE_URL = 'http://127.0.0.1:8899'
$env:ANTHROPIC_API_KEY = 'YOUR_TEEPROXY_API_KEY'
claude --model 'COPY_CLAUDE_MODEL_ID' If you previously configured another gateway, check for conflicting authentication settings such as ANTHROPIC_AUTH_TOKEN in the current terminal. See the official Claude Code gateway documentation ↗ .
For Grok Build or another client, check the required protocol and model provider. See the TeeProxy client integration guide ↗ . Support for a custom Base URL alone does not mean every client endpoint is compatible.
